Dear Mr. William Reed,

I am an mechanical engineer living in Ankara, Turkey. I am very much interested in Nanba after reading about it in your newsletter and web site. But I have no clue how it really looks like. A very close friend of mine who has some experience in Taijiquan makes fun of me. Is there any short movie, video clip or even a DVD to purchase to see live example of Nanba walking?

Thank you very much for your excellent question!

Of course it is difficult to visualize Nanba movement from text or a still photograph. I have good news for you.

Yes, there is a DVD for Nanba movement. Although it comes with a book that has very clear photographs, all of the text and narration is in Japanese. Also, the DVD may not be formatted for your region, though you can probably change the settings.

It is published by http://www.nanba-walk.net/

We are currently working on ways to provide visual information and instruction on Nanba to people in English around the world. This will take some months, but it will be coming!

Meanwhile, there will also be follow up on Nanba in my newsletter and website.

As to your good friend doing Taijiquan, rest assured, the movements of Nanba are very compatible!

Thank you for your interest.

Dear Mr. William Reed,

Thank you for your kind reply. I have visited http://www.nanba-walk.net/ but it seems I have to approve my Japanese. Anyway, I will be waiting for the English DVD. But meanwhile, if you could publish a short video of Nanba walking in your website, it would be very helpful.

Best Regards,

Metin Bilginer
